JOURNALS
Students were provided with 8.5"x11" sketchbooks to record their notes and thoughts on what we saw and heard about throughout the day, and write their daily reflections at night via prompted journal entries. With the format of a sketchbook students were encouraged to express thoughts in whatever format (writing, drawing, collage, etc.) that they saw fit. Journal entry discussions were held daily over group lunch and dinner meals.
Daily journal entry prompts included:
- What does biodiversity mean and why does it matter?
- What is the social responsibility of an artist?
- What does it mean to live in a global climate?
- Why does science have difficulty conveying data, and what can be done about this?
- What are the constructive ways that art, science, and technology can engage with one another?
- Why do science, art, and society need one another?
- What does it mean to collaborate across disciplines?
- Out of all of your experiences in NYC this past week, what made the biggest impact on you, and why?
- How do you define creativity, and what role does creativity play in STEAM fields?
